The Wexford is a deep seated jumping saddle, similar to the GP range, offering a wider seat for comfort than most traditional jump saddles. With large supporting knee and thigh blocks for the ultimate in rider security. Extra forward flap option for the taller riders.

The panel and tree combinations within this saddle allow for a multitude of profiles.

A superb saddle for the hunting season or maybe the novice jumper or for those of us who just like an “arm-chair” ride!

Ray Cooper Western Saddle, very wide fit.

It has 8 ¾ inch gullet and flat bars. 16 inch seat.

It was hand made for An American Saddle Bred and has been used on a 16h1 Appaloosa with a wide back recently. It is light tan oiled leather with raw hide stirrups and pommel. Silver conchos. Dark green suede seat.

Genuine sheep skin under side.

It is used but good condition. Very comfortable and seats you close to the horses back.

Fitted with leather flank cinch and mohair front cinch.

When new it was £1,800 will accept £750 Ono.

SOLD - WESTERN SADDLE FOR SALE

I have for sale a western saddle made by Continental, it is from their range called Montana, I have owned it for 6 years and it is in very good condition. The tree is very wide, one of the widest trees they produce. It fits my Welsh sec D, who is very broad, in an English he wears a xwide dressage saddle.

Technical blurb; Reining saddle - 16" seat (this equates to a 17” English)- designed for medium-high withers - extra-full quarter bars - built on a wood and fibreglass tree - saddle length/weight 64cm/13kg - gullet height 8 1/4" - gullet width 7 1/2" - rigging 7/8 Single C - centre seat. This saddle is suitable for extra-wide or short horses. I.E. Native breeds. Don’t be fooled in thinking a western saddle fits any horse this is not the case, most western saddles are built on QH bars or semi QH bars, this equates to a MW fit and a M fit in an English. QH stand’s for Quarter Horse. They have to fit properly just like an English saddle does. This is not a cheap saddle you can buy on ebay this is a proper quality last a lifetime saddle.
Over time we have had changes made to the saddle by a saddler, we added a back cinch and also have added leather strings so I can tie coats etc to the saddle, It comes with a front Mohair cinch RRP £40 and leather rear cinch RRP £90 (cinch means girth). FOR SALE 16.5ins GP/JUMPING SADDLE

This is an lovely supple GP/jumping saddle, only for sale as the horse it was bought for has changed shape and it no longer fits. It is in great condition.

I don't know the make, but the leather is soft and well cared for and showing only the usual signs of wear eg where stirrup leathers have hung. It was bought and fitted second hand by a saddler 12 months ago and cost £350.

It measures 9ins from D to D, but I would say it is narrow to medium fit rather than wide. The distance between the panels underneath at the front is 4.5ins. We had it on a 14.2hh Welsh cob/arab with fairly well defined withers.

16in Black Leather Pony  GP Saddle
Medium wide fit, used on a 12.2 pony. This saddle is in excellent condition, there are a few scuff marks from where the stirrup leathers lie. It is made by Sattlerei biem Kloster Schonthal and on the girth strap protector is printed Pony 2, Lemetex, Made in Germany. All girth straps are in excellent condition. It also has suede knee rolls. This really is a lovely little saddle, but we no longer have a pony that it fits. £275 ono
I also have a 15in Black saddle, I am unsure of the make, medium wide, it has been well used and tatty, but everthing is sound on it and would make an ideal breaking saddle. £30 ono

The next most important purchase after you have bought your horse or pony is a well fitting saddle.

A badly fitting saddle can cause your horse pain! That pain can lead to loss of performance or even behavioural problems! Imagine always wearing shoes that don't fit - you wouldn't be able to move properly, you would soon experience pain and you would get very grumpy - and you would understand what is hurting!!  A horse has a fight or flight instinct, so if he or she is in pain, the result will be to fight against it, or you, or run away!

So, it is essential that the saddle fits the horse, fits you and suits your needs.  Unless you are very experienced, you should use the services of a saddle fitter to help you find the right saddle.  Most saddle fitters carry stocks of secondhand saddles as well as new ones.  It is much better to spend a little bit more and get it right, than to guess the size and fit you want and buy it on Ebay!  But, if you do buy one secondhand from here, or elsewhere, you can still ask a saddle fitter or an experienced instructor whether the fit is ok for your horse. Just remember though, if you are buying a secondhand saddle privately, you need to be certain that the tree is not broken! You will have to trust the seller unless they are offering a money back guarantee.

Apart from getting the size and fit right, the tree needs to be sound and the 'stuffing' of the saddle evenly distributed with no lumps. again, you need a saddle fitter to get this right for you.

Don't forget also, that your horse will change shape with age, with work and according to his condition, so you should have your saddle regularly checked.
